Urology ST3 interview: common questions

What is the Urology ST3 interview format?

The 2026 applicant handbook (the latest published) describes four 13-minute online stations — Outpatient Scenario, Emergency Scenario, Communication and Skills — each with a short reading time before it. The 2027 handbook is under review, so check it when it is released.

How is appointability decided in Urology ST3?

In 2026 a candidate was unappointable if their total score fell below the modified Angoff score, or if an interviewer raised a 'red flag' for a serious lack of knowledge, a dangerous action or a probity issue that was upheld.

Do I need MRCS for Urology ST3?

Yes. In the 2026 round all parts of the MRCS had to be passed by the 'initial offers released by' date, alongside CT1 and CT2 core surgical competences.

How competitive is Urology ST3?

In the 2025 round NHS England reported 343 applications for 74 Urology ST3 posts, a competition ratio of 4.64.
