I'm currently working as an Acute Medical registrar and over the past few years have developed a clear and sustained interest in Endocrinology and Diabetes through both acute and longitudinal patient care. On the acute take I regularly manage DKA and HHS independently, initiate fixed-rate insulin infusions, adjust basal-bolus regimens, and manage complex hypoglycaemia and steroid-induced hyperglycaemia. Alongside acute care I've reviewed patients in thyroid and general endocrine clinics, managing hypothyroidism, thyrotoxicosis, adrenal insufficiency and complex electrolyte disturbances. What draws me to endocrinology is the analytical thinking required — interpreting biochemical patterns and feedback systems — but also the long-term impact of getting metabolic control right. From a governance perspective I led a NICE-based audit on TSH monitoring in primary hypothyroidism, strengthening my understanding of safe long-term follow-up. Teaching has been central — I've delivered bedside sessions on DKA management, thyroid examination and endocrine blood interpretation. I now want to pursue Higher Specialty Training in Endocrinology and Diabetes to deepen my outpatient exposure, develop expertise in complex metabolic disease, and contribute to structured patient-centred endocrine care within an MDT.
