2026 Neurology interview-day briefing
What the recruitment office has told candidates for the 2026 round. Always follow your own invitation email if it differs.
Format and scoring
- Two stations, each with its own pair of interviewers scoring only their station.
- Four questions of 7.5 minutes each — two per 15-minute station.
- Five scored areas in total: the presentation question produces two marks (presentation and communication).
- About 40–50 minutes overall including the changeover; a 2-minute gap between stations while the panel scores.
- No separate clinical-scenario station this round — clinical judgement is tested inside the medical registrar question.
Presentation brief
“An interesting case I have been involved in / a case that has changed my practice”
- No more than three minutes.
- No visual aids — no PowerPoint, and you must not share your screen.
- Small prompt cards are allowed, for your own use only.
- Delivered in Station 1 as Question 2; it is scored for content and, separately, for communication.
Before interview day
- Confirm by email that you have read and understood the Applicant Declaration and Applicant Briefing by the deadline in your invitation (14:00, 2 October in 2026) — without it you cannot be interviewed.
- Watch the Qpercom walkthrough video and log in once (Initial login / Forgotten password, using your Oriel email) on the device you will use.
- Run the Qpercom diagnostics test — mandatory, ideally the day before and at least an hour before your slot.
- Use a laptop or desktop (Windows or macOS) with Chrome, Edge or Firefox in an incognito tab; phones and tablets are not supported.
- Use home broadband — not hospital Wi-Fi, a Trust laptop, mobile data or tethering. Technical failure on hospital IT does not earn a contingency slot.
- Set your device clock to the correct time; an out-of-sync clock can stop reading-time instructions and scenarios appearing.
- Allow the browser to use your camera and microphone, allow pop-ups, and test a headset.
- Book a quiet, private, well-lit room with light in front of you; an interruption ends the interview with no rearrangement.
On the day
- Log in 10 minutes before your slot (not earlier than 15) and choose the correct interview; you wait in a virtual waiting room — refresh regularly.
- An administrator checks original photo ID (passport or driving licence; no scans or photos) and asks you to show the room.
- Confirm nobody else is present; keep your phone on silent, nearby but not on your desk.
- Have paper and a pen to hand; stay seated with head and shoulders visible and camera and microphone on throughout.
- Watch the progress bar: current stage is green, timed stages turn amber, and a pop-up warns at one minute remaining.
- Use the Qpercom Help button for problems during the interview; raise any concern about how it was run with the admin team the same day.
Applicant Declaration — rules that end an interview
- No AI of any kind at any point, including waiting and reading time — use leads to disqualification and GMC referral.
- No notes, books, internet or other reference material beyond what you are told is allowed, including between stations.
- No other programmes or devices in use apart from Qpercom.
- Do not record or capture any part of the interview.
- Do not share or discuss the questions with other applicants afterwards.
- Do not return to the virtual interview room once your interview has finished.
