Clinical Scenario

Clinical scenario overview

  • In general, the Station 1 clinical scenario starts with a short vignette and a set amount of time (typically one minute) to gather your thoughts.
  • You may be given the call from the A&E SHO, a deterioration on the ward, or a GP referral.
  • Use the preparation minute to draft a structure: A–E assessment, focused history, examination targets, investigations (bedside → bloods → imaging), differential and immediate management with clear escalation.
  • Whatever framework you use, signal it explicitly to the examiner — "I would approach this in an A–E manner, starting with airway…".
  • The best candidates verbalise: (1) immediate safety actions
  • (2) the differential they are working through
  • (3) what would change their management
  • (4) who they would involve and when. Keep your answer modular so the examiner can interrupt and steer.
